Krabi

Tom has started his new job in Bangkok in late June. Just before that, we decided to go to the southern beach town of Krabi for the weekend. This was our first trip to the deep south, a region famous for its islands and beach towns (Phuket, Phi Phi, Krabi to name but a few). Thanks to the low season, most hotels are quiet and offer good discounts (you know which website to use :-). The coastline near Krabi is magnificent, with islands and karst rock formations in the sea. We took a long boat from our hotel to Koh Hong, a picture perfect postcard island with pristine beaches. We relaxed there for a while and even got the visit from a local water monitor lizard (the park is a natural reserve). In the region, you can now see Tsunami warnings and escape routes, as the coastline suffered heavily from the 2004 tsunami. Even though the rainy season has started, we did not get a single drop of rain and temperatures were bearable.
